Walk with the Pack
Thank you to everyone who joined us on our pack walk this month, it was a great way to spend a couple of hours. For those of you who have never joined or experienced a pack walk, the reason we hold the pack walks is because dogs are pack animals and like to be with their own kind, The benefits of this is not only is it enjoyable for you as a dog owner but can also help with any issues they might exhibit when walking. The other benefits of the pack walk are some of the different exercises we do during the walk which you will enjoy. Your dogs will have the opportunity to interact with other dogs that you would not normally have the chance to experience.
It would be great to see you at our next pack walk which is held on the 31st July at Harlston Firs, Northampton. We will be meeting at the main entrance at 10am to start at 10.30.
No need to book just come along and join us, we look forward to seeing you there.

A Call For An End to The "Breed Mafia"
Submitted by Freelance Writers on May 4, 2010 - 11:22 am. Sourced from K9 Magazine
In every breed in this shallow world of exhibition there is always the 'breed mafia'. Usually a group of elderly women (with the occasional male) that is steadfast in its view even when wrong, they are self proclaimed experts in nothing who draw in the stupidly dazed owners of tomorrow with a coven like chant of "we are the breed , there is nothing anyone can teach us about this breed."
Unfortunately all this does is create disharmony, damages dogs and stagnates gene pools to such a degree that health crisis are inevitable. The showing of any dog should be judged fairly and with vigour , the winner of today will become the sire or dam of the future, moreso when its being performed by the breed mafia who have very little time for newcomers unless of course those newcomers are as uneducated and care as little about the future of a breed as they do.
It is now time for all owner exhibitors to make a stand and protest to the Kennel Club. Tell them what is wrong with dogs today in order to protect dogs for tomorrow. If the KC are oblivious to what is factually happening because we all keep quiet then nothing can ever be achieved. It is no longer acceptable for the annoyed to levitate the ignorant selfish breeder/exhibitor to podiums they do not deserve. Help re-structure breed clubs that operate a breed mafia winning system with those poor judges we have all met and continue to watch oscar winning performances whilst brown nosing with these old mafiosa.
Do not stand back doing nothing , if we careful ethical breeder/ exhibitors are to protect our breeds for the future generations to enjoy then surely we all have an obligation to make a protest and demand the KC take note. Lets be honest here, the KC need our money to survive, its by us doing nothing that allows this foul play to continue.
If this is a sport as most will stat e then lets have some real rules for ALL to abide by, lets start by having a judging committee that assesses every appointment and lets commence appointments from outside breed clubs, its a monopoly of deceit and corruption and this must not be allowed to continue.
Let us also have a fully fledged discipline committee of professional people who ARE qualified to assess all aspects of a hearing, with that comes an effective legal appeals system.
The KC is no longer an old boys network of the 1800's its a financial company that is still operating by the rules of a bygone age which actually contravenes the rights of everyone of its users. Stand up and be counted, demand KC action NOW, because if we dont, dogs will never see a happy healthy fit for life function or role in society.
Start by requesting the minutes and accounts for the last 5 years of all your breed clubs, ask for the details of why some members have been refused admission or accepted or banned from the club, the manner in which breeders are chosen to represent the whole club etc, why committee members are chosen, demand everything, if not satisfied call an extraordinary AGM and sack the breed club. It really is that easy if we are all serious about protecting our breeds for the next 100 years.
Just Dogs Live event 9th-10th-11th July 2010
The East of England Showground held another fantastic show over the weekend 9th, 10th & 11th July 2010. Just Dogs Live, incorporating the East of England Championship Dog Show, welcomed over 500 pet dogs and over 9,000 competitor dogs to the show for a fun packed weekend. Just Dogs Live, only in its second year, raised over £1,700 for Pets as Therapy, by charging £3.00 per pet dog that attended the show. This money will enable the charity to fund many more volunteers to help with the rehabilitation of people of all ages.
The show is firmly establishing itself as one of the biggest doggy days out for families in the
country. There were exciting demonstrations by the dogs and staff from HMP Whitemoor, Essex Dog Display Team and Lains Shooting School & Mullenscote Gundogs. There was also a fast and furious dog agility, gundog scurry and Cambridgeshire Canines Flyball Tournament, which encouraged visitors to have-a-go with their pets!
Dog owners were also able to gain advice on behavioural issues and training from a number of experts, including Paul Daly from Canine Coaching, Stan Rawlinson - the Original Dog Listener and Paul Rawlinson - K9 Dogs Behaviour.
The East of England Championship Dog Show has been held at the Showground for over thirty years, and is settling in to the revised layout, taking the show from midweek dates to a weekend show. This has enabled the Show to expand to appeal to all dog owners.
Andrew Mercer, Chief Executive of the East of England Agricultural Society, organisers of Just Dogs Live, said: 'Just Dogs Live has been a great success and a wonderful weekend. Dog lovers of all ages came along and helped to make a fantastic show. I am sure everybody has learnt something new over the weekend. The use of the exec Peterborough exhibition hall for a number of the displays and stakes classes meant the show was 'weather-proof' and provided some welcome shade for visitors. It was also a glamorous environment for the best in group and best in show judging.' Best in Show at the East of England Championship Dog Show was Ch Perrisblu Kennislain's Chelsey, a Kerry Blue Terrier, owned by Phil Davies and handled by Geoff Corish.
I am pleased to annonce that once again we have been invited to the Just Dogs Live event at The East Of England Show Ground, Peterborough in 2011. I will again take part in a more proactive way and doing talks during the three days.We will also be taking on One To Ones as well during the day.
This is a great day out so keep an eye on this page for further details and info on how to book in for this event in 2011.
